After the conclusion of the IAAPA Expo, on Saturday, November 17th, Fun Spot Orlando hosted an ACE Day event for 27 ACE Members and guests. The morning started out with a behind-the-scenes tour and ERT on White Lightning, a hybrid wooden coaster (with a steel structure) built by Great Coasters International in 2013. Bart Parsons, Project Manager for the park, showed guests the working mechanics of White Lightning, which included an exciting and rare look into the chain lift drive housing and a unique photo opportunity under the coaster’s structure. During ERT, ACEers were gifted a commemorative White Lightning t-shirt, curtesy of the park, along with a complementary on-ride photo from White Lightning.
After the ERT session, John Arie Sr., Owner and Chairman, answered questions about the park, its history, rides, and future expansion plans. It is always fascinating to hear stories on how a theme park operates, and it’s especially gratifying to hear how well Fun Spot is doing. The park then opened to the public and ACEers were able to enjoy the rest of the wonderful rides, coasters, and go-cart tracks that Fun Spot has to offer. Included in the event was a complementary ride on the world’s 2nd tallest SkyCoaster, standing at 250 feet tall. Even for avid coaster enthusiasts, this high-flying swing ride still needs some courage built up to face this ride.
An all-you-can-eat barbeque Lunch was provided at the SkyDiner. Here, both John Arie, Jr. (CEO) and Mark Harrison (Chief of Maintenance) answered questions and told stories of the park to enthusiastic ACEers. After lunch, participants were free to enjoy the rest of their day at either park. Many concluded their day over at the other Fun Spot location in Kissimmee to experience Mine Blower, a Gravity Group Hybrid looping wooden coaster (also with a steel structure) that opened last year. Fun Spot is an incredible park with staff that will always open their hearts to ACE, and we thank them for an enjoyable and remarkable ACE Day.
